Technology Facilitator Role

Before
1. Introduce digital cameras, how to use them (zoom, aim, pressing shutter) and introduce appropriate vocabulary (digital camera, zoom, aim, shutter, image) Friday Oct. 15 @ 11:00
2. Discuss handling digital cameras with respect (look for lanyards, etc to keep them around their necks)
3. Number cameras so that students within groups take pictures according to their camera.

During
1. Mrs. H will collect cameras and demonstrate how pictures get put on computer
2. Mrs. H will print out all pictures and return them to the teacher.
3. Mrs. H and Ms. LeTrent will work together during whole group writing block to draft stories using picture as prompt.

After
1. In lab, demonstrate what an iMovie final product is (digital storytelling), and what multimedia is. (intro vocab)
2. Import pictures into iMovie file.
3. Record fluent student narration into iMovie or Garage band, then blend together to
make final iMovie.
4. Share final product with class on Friday Nov 5 @ 11:00
5. Attempt to contact schools outside of NC to see if they would be interested in doing a project about fall in their area, then comparing projects. (Skype with another school is also a possibility).
21st Century Content
Students have to think carefully to determine what picture to take at the pumpkin patch to represent something that is fall (Critical thinking and problem solving). They will have to then transfer this into their writing in a clear and concise manner (Communication skill). They will have an opportunity to visit a local produce farm to take the context of education outside of their classroom (contextual learning skills) and will then create an iMovie with the intention of showing the final movie to parents. We will strive to get student permission slips so that we can put the movie on Ms. LeTrent’s website as well. There is a chance for a global connection of we can bring in a school from another state to do a similar project.
Reflection

I felt like we took on more than we could handle with the iMovie production! We did get the pictures printed and students did write their stories using the pictures as a prompt, but we did not get everything narrated. Due to time restrictions student ended up sharing their stories in the room.
